Humpty Dumpty's Great Adventture
Do you like eggs? Boiled? Fried? Scrambled? Well here is a tale
of an egg that, in trying to be cool, had a plan which left him literally in
pieces!
“I dare you to sit on that wall!” cried Little Jack Horner to
his friend Humpty Dumpy. He was gesturing to a tall old wall which was falling
to pieces. “Do it or you’re a chicken!”
“I’m not sure!” replied Humpty Dumpty, “I could
fall!”
“Chicken!” exclaimed Little Jack Horner. Humpty Dumpty hated to
be called a chicken.
So he muttered to his friend, “Alright! I’ll do
it!”
A few hours later, Humpty Dumpty knew that it was time. Peering
around as he worked his way up the humongous brick wall he saw minute people
rushing around. He wished he was one of them. He glanced at Little Jack Horner.
With a carefree laugh, Little Jack Horner, without the slightest bit of worry
for his friend, gazed back. Humpty Dumpty had to do it. He had to prove to
Little Jack Horner that he was just as brave as him. Taking a deep breath in,
Humpty Dumpty lay one foot on the ramshackle wall. Then the other. He was on. He
edged his way along and tried to make himself comfortable. This would be the
longest day of his life.
CRASH!!! Shatters of shell covered the ground and yolk oozed
everywhere. Humpty Dumpty wasn’t on the wall anymore. He was splattered all over
the floor. It was a saddening sight for Little Jack Horner. He wasn’t sure what
to do. Then it struck him. The king’s men always
knew what to do. They would fix his friend. He just had to fetch them. But how?
He started to cry. He wasn’t sure if Humpty Dumpty would be ever himself again
or forgive his friend for the terrible thing he’d done.
Luckily, the king’s men, looking smart in their scarlet red
uniform, were passing by on their well-groomed horses and spotted Little Jack
Horner weeping. They tried to comfort him and asked him what was wrong. Little
Jack replied saying “Everything is wrong. My friend is smashed to pieces and
there’s nothing I can do!” he pointed at the fragments of egg shell and the
runny yolk, “Please help him!” The men were quick to get started. They tried
their best by attempting these strategies: fixing the shell like a jigsaw – it
was too complicated; gluing the shell back together- it was far too messy; and
wrapping Humpty Dumpty up like a parcel- they ran out of paper. Then one of the
king’s men received a call from a man. They had to go but apologised to Little
Jack Horner for not completing the job. Little Jack Horner brandished his
IPhone 5 and called 999. He needed
help. And fast.
In a flash, the ambulance, loaded with paramedics and equipment,
came down the long road. The trained professionals took one look at the egg and
brought out a stretcher and a bag. The shell pieces were placed on the
stretcher and the yolk was collected in the bag. The sight of his friend in a
stretcher was unbearable. He turned away. What had he
done?
A couple of weeks later, Humpty Dumpty,
although feeling a lot better, was still in the hospital and Little Jack
Horner had come to pay him a visit. “I’m terribly sorry,” he said to his
friend.
“It’s
ok,” Humpty Dumpty replied, “Let’s carry on with our game. I dare you to put
your thumb in that Christmas pie.”
