Ghost Hostel
It was never going to be an ordinary day. Let alone an ordinary
week. From the moment the Grey’s black car arrived on the brown, ugly drive at
their holiday hotel in Grimsleton, Maddie knew something odd was going to
happen. Tentatively, they stepped out on to the uneven rubble of a drive. Maddie
looked at the signpost next to the door. Ghost Hostel! The door creaked
open. A stick thin old man
gestured for them to come in. Ben took one look at the ramshackle house. Then he
laughed.
“You fake!” Ben chuckled “I’ve seen much
better impressions of a ghost hotel before. F A K E fake that’s what you are!”
He was all set to go on some more about it when Maddie kicked him. He let out of
yelp of pain put then went silent. The man’s face was going redder with anger
than a tomato. He stared at Ben and said “Come here young man! I will show you
we are no fake!”he grabbed an ear “You will spend a night in the torture chamber
where the ghosts and ghouls live. Then you will learn your lesson. One that you
will never forget!” then he swept
him away, leaving only a pile of dust behind.
Everyone’s jaws dropped in horror. Maddie’s dad, Mike, laid a
hand on Maddie’s back. He could tell she was scared, so was he, but he tried to
act calm and normal. Just then a woman came out of a door. She was a very large
lady, who wore a purple dress, so she looked like a grape being blown up like a
balloon. “Hello I’m Miss Minchin I own this hotel. Don’t worry it’s not haunted,
just no-one knows how it was built. That is where the name comes from. I presume
you are staying here. Otherwise why would you come in the first place? Maybe
you’re a burglar? Tee hee hee! Just my little joke. Anyway, how can I help
you?”
“Um ur…..” Mike started. He didn’t know what to say. But then
Maddie’s mum, Caroline, butted in saying who they were and all that nonsense.
But Maddie’s eyes were glued to something else. Something that could never be
explained.
